Tonight, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley will accept 25-30 cats and kittens being transported from the Texas SPCA in preparation for Hurricane Gustav. In total 89 felines are arriving in Denver and the Dumb Friends League, Larimer Humane Society and HSBV are each transferring a group to our shelters. These are animals who were in the adoption programs of the Texas organization and are being moved out of the facility to create room for evacuated animals from the Gulf Coast region.
Over the last few days shelters across the country have been working to mobilize assistance for the areas that will be affected by this storm. As needs arise, local and national groups will coordinate deployment of staff, resources and additional transfers as needed. I will keep you posted on how you can help and what we are doing to assist our animal welfare colleagues in the south.
These cats will be available in our adoption center sometime in the coming week, please check our website for updates.
