And 2010 was one for the record books but not for the usual reasons! Every year we staff up our client services desk for the morning of July 5th when families come looking for their frightened pets who ran off or escaped the house unnerved by the sounds of fireworks, bottle caps and rockets.
I am very happy to report that this year it was the ADOPTION desk that was booming with business. The rain storm on the 4th seemed to temper the fireworks done in people's back yards and on the neighborhood streets so we saw a pretty low number of lost and stray animals. The line in the morning was outside our adoption center where folks of all ages who had the day off came to add a pet to their family.
In total 31 animals were adopted on one day! This comes close to our record day and we were very excited to have several of our long term residents finally find their match! Here's who went home:
12 cats/kittens
17 dogs/puppies
1 ferret
And Twiddledee the hamster!
Thanks to all of our dedicated staff and volunteers who worked hard to make these adoptions a success. And thanks to you our community for coming in and giving so many pets a great new beginning. Every adoption means a life saved and 31 lives in one day is worth celebrating!
I just wanted to suggest a topic for your next blog posting. Many of the animals you are getting in right now seem to be older. They have a harder time getting adopted, but the truth is they can be just as wonderful and isn't it better that their last few years on earth be in a loving home than in a shelter?
BTW: Most of my animals were from your shelter and I do feel it is a wonderful organization. Thank you for helping so many kind hearted souls find their way home.
